Olympic Riding School
One of our most recent projects, a long standing client appointed us to undertake all the groundwork for an Olympic size riding school and stables to the very highest standard. The school has been constructed to meet competition standard and this involved substantial earthworks, including:
- Surveying and marking out the area required – 60 x 25 metres
- Stripping the field and preparing the levels
- Digging out and removing all clay to reach chalk
- Installing a membrane and drainage
- 3000 tons of clean chalk acquired to level the school
- 1200 tons of clean single size limestone acquired for drainage and base
- Installation of fencing, kick-boards and gates
- 300 tons of track fibre surface material
- All levelled to precise specification with 25mm tolerance throughout
The lie of the land required significant preparation before further works on drainage could be undertaken. Despite the school being situated in North Hampshire, which is famous for being on a chalk ridge, it was still necessary to acquire additional material to ensure the level of the site met the required specification.
On a remote site and project of this size, our Cat 432F Backhoe really comes in to its own and is the perfect machine for the job.
We were quickly able to define the site and grade the base to level using the Cat along with our grading beam. This significantly improved workflow, enabling us to complete the project on time and within budget.
The scale of the project can really be appreciated from this view, in terms of size at 60m x 25m, but also the undulating lie of the land that needed to be overcome and levelled to precise tolerances of 25mm maximum throughout.
Once the base was level, we undertook the drainage work and applied the membrane for the entire area.
